Research is important to the Department for Families and Communities. Exploration, innovation and knowledge development helps us build strong communities and deliver better government services.
DFC stimulates and fosters priority driven research – through advocacy at the national and state level, commissioning and funding important studies; making a financial or in-kind contribution; providing access for researchers to information, staff, clients or resources, and through support to post-graduate studies. We also have an expanding program of internal research in key areas of strategic priority. We are particularly committed to building collaborative research partnerships with universities, research centres, across government and the non-government sector.
The Research Unit coordinates and leads the Department’s research effort and is the gateway into our department for researchers. The Unit can provide more information about research in DFC, including our strategic research interests, research collaborations, research funding program and research previously undertaken. The Unit also supports the Families and Communities Research Ethics Committee, which has responsibility to review and approve all research and evaluation proposals to be conducted by or in the department.
