Private rental assistance is available from Housing SA.
Aboriginal Housing Services Rental Program
The program offers properties for rent in metropolitan areas and major regional centres of South Australia.There is a separate waiting list for this program. You will be interviewed about your housing needs and any social, medical, financial, and cultural factors.
Eligibility
You must:
- Be a South Australian resident
- Have an independent income and not own residential property
- Pass an income and assets and/or needs test
- Provide evidence to show you are of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent
- Complete a Confirmation of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Descent form.
If you wish to be considered for urgent housing you will need your situation confirmed by a health or community services worker. Guidelines for writing support letters are available.
Application process
- Complete an Application for Housing form (download below)
- Tick "yes" or "no" to the question "Are you seeking housing with Aboriginal Housing Services?".
- You must choose the areas you would like to live in from the Housing SA maps attached to the application form.
