Council rates

You may be able to receive a state government concession on the amount of your council rates of up to $190 per year (or up to $100 per year if you are a State Seniors Card holder). 

If your area is connected to an effluent disposal scheme and a charge is included on your council rates you may be eligible for a concession of up to $100 per year on that charge bringing the total concession on the council rate notice to $290.

Residential park residents may be eligible for the Residential Parks Concession Scheme.  For more information please choose the Residential Parks Concession Scheme option to the right of this page, under the heading “in this section”.


Eligibility

You may be eligible if you:

  • Own or part-own your home, and it is your principal place of residence on the date that the council rates account is payable for that financial year.
  • Are responsible for paying the rates on that property.

AND

  • Hold a Pensioner Concession Card or Department of Veterans Affairs Gold Card (TPI, EDA or War Widow), or receive an eligible payment from Centrelink* or the Department for Veterans Affairs (on or between the issue date and up to 14 days after the due date of the relevant account). OR
  • Can demonstrate that you are on a low income** (ie your gross income is below the low income limits applied by the Department for Families and Communities). Note: Your spouse or domestic partner’s income is also assessed for this purpose. OR
  • have a State Seniors Card. Note: For married couples or domestic partnerships, if only one person holds a State Seniors Card, the other partner must not work more than 20 hours per week in paid employment.

* Eligible Centrelink payments are:
Newstart allowance, Sickness allowance, Widow allowance, Youth allowance, Partner allowance, Parenting Payment Partnered, Bereavement allowance, Special benefit, Exceptional Circumstances payments, Community Development Employment Project (CDEP), New Enterprise Incentive Scheme, ABSTUDY, Austudy.

How to apply

State Government Concession 

  • Apply online (follow the link, read the instructions, fill out the details required before clicking on the "Submit application" button at the end of the form to submit your application); or
  • Print out a completed application form and post to the concessions "Reply Paid" address (no postage stamp required). You can use the same form to apply for a concession on your energy bills. If you own or part own your home, you can also use the form to apply for a concession on your water and sewerage rates. 

Self-Funded Retiree Council Rate Concession

  • Application forms can be downloaded from the RevenueSA website. Alternatively, phone RevenueSA on 1300 366 150 and arrange to have an application form sent to you by mail. Completed application forms can be posted to: RevenueSA, Property Services, GPO Box 1647, Adelaide SA 5001.

    Important: Your council rates should be paid in accordance with the due dates shown on the notice.
